Board Member Fundraising Checklist
There are many ways in board members can
help raise money for the organization. This is a
checklist which can be used to assess current
involvement in fundraising, and which can help board
members realize other ways to contribute to fundraising
efforts.
General
____ 1. I understand the plans and the
program for fundraising.
____ 2. I fully understand and endorse
the case for why someone should contribute.
____ 3. I make an annual contribution
which is meaningful according to my own definition of
that word. I make my contribution without having to be
asked more than once.
Prospect Development
____ 4. I give the names and addresses
of individuals and businesses to be added to the mailing
list.
____ 5. I assist staff in identifying
and evaluating prospects, individuals,
corporations, and foundations.
Cultivation and
Acknowledgement
____ 6. I help to cultivate major donor
prospects.
____ 7. I make introductions for others
to make a solicitation visit.
____ 8. I write personal notes on
follow-up and acknowledgement letters.
Direct Mail
____ 9. I write personal notes on annual
appeal letters.
____ 10. I assist with solicitation and
other mailings.
Special Events
____ 11. I assist at special events
(greeting, bartending, etc.)
____ 12. I host special events at my
home.
____ 13. I serve on special event
planning committees.
Solicitation Visits
____ 14. I accompany others on
solicitation visits.
____ 15. I am prepared to make a
solicitation myself.
