Mileage
Reimbursement Rates
In
January 2003, we called for a significant increase
in mileage rates paid by associations for the use of
their personal automobiles.
What has happened since? Well,
during 2004, fuel prices in Canada hit $1.00 per litre
in some provinces, and while they have decreased
somewhat by July 2004, fuel prices are expected to
remain high.
Once again, we compare the costs of
operating a vehicle as published by the CAA, the
allowable rates of reimbursement as per the Canadian
Revenue Agency, the reimbursement rates paid within the
federal government, and the rates paid by associations
as reported in the CSAE Compensation and Benefits
survey.
The bottom line....in many
organizations, the staff and volunteers
who use personal vehicles are still subsidizing the
organization. And not just a little bit....a lot.
