POLICIES
AND PRACTICES
Sample Smoking Policies
Smoking policies in association offices
must take into account local laws related to smoking as
well as societal trends, however the following provides
a sense of what kinds of policies are in place in
associations.
The biggest mistake is to not have a
policy at all. Many organizations still do not have
a policy on smoking and the work environment.
Remember - it is about more than removing smoke from the
work area. Other issues that impact the workplace
include excessive smoke at entrances to buildings, how
smoke breaks are dealt with, and the presence of smoke in
the workplace on clothes, etc.
Sample Policy #1
Smoking is not permitted in ABC
Association offices. It is a smoke-free environment for
the comfort of all employees.
Smoking is permitted outside the building.
Smoking breaks may be taken in lieu of your morning break
and your afternoon break; however, total time must not
exceed 15 minutes in the morning and 15 minutes in the
afternoon.
Smoking breaks must not detract from your
work or efficiency and must not cause disruption to fellow
employees.
Sample Policy #2
Maintaining personal health
Each employee is responsible for
maintaining immunizations and having regular medical
examinations. The ABC Association shall endeavour to
maintain a smoke-free work environment.
