The New
Google Toolbar
In searching the web, we use Google
almost exclusively...due to its ease of use and the
quality of the results.
We recently downloaded Google's latest
toolbar for Explorer, and it has some great features:
-
You don't have to go to the Google site
to initiate a search. You can search the web with
Google from any site.
-
You can set the toolbar to eliminate
pop-up ads, and can over-ride the blocking feature on a
site by site basis. This is a great feature,
and one we use regularly.
-
The new toolbar also has an AutoFill
feature for on-line forms and fields. You enter your
information once in Google, and then whenever Google
recognizes an applicable field that it has content for,
such as phone number, it shades the field yellow. If you
click on the toolbar's AutoFill button, Google fills in
all the applicable fields. You can edit or change
the contents of any field after it has been filled
automatically. Warning - Although the
Google toolbar includes credit card information in its
AutoFill fields, we don't use those fields.
-
Link a weblog (a blog) to the page
you're visiting
-
Restrict your search to pages located in
a specific country
-
Search just within the pages of a site
-
Highlight search terms on a page
-
Customize the layout of your toolbar
There are also a number of other features
that were popular aspects of previous Google toolbars, and
have been retained in this version. If you like Google,
this is well worth
downloading.
To use the toolbar, you need to be running
Microsoft Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP, and be using
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or later. The pop-up
blocker requires Internet Explorer 5.5 or later
