Dealing With Long
URL Links in E-mail Messages!
Long URLs usually break when quoted in
an e-mail message, and then don't work. More savvy
recipients can quickly fix the link to make it active,
but many other recipients won't know how to do it!
Here is a neat little trick to solve this
problem. Copy the URL and then go to
http://www.tinyurl.com.
Paste the long URL, and TinyURL will provide a short URL
for use in the email message.
The URL for a page on the CSAE web site
is:
http://www.csae.com/client/csae/MemberLibrary.nsf
/All/Finance+&+Administration
That page can also be accessed via this
URL:
http://tinyurl.com/3cyls
Of course, as with many shortcuts, there
is a trade-off. The original domain is now shown
in the TinyURL URL. IN my view, that is a small
price to pay when dealing with URLs in e-mail messages.
A final word...I would never use this
tool for links on web pages. There is no need to
as the URL can be hyperlinked to regular text:
