POLICIES AND PRACTICES

Sample Policies - Earned Days Off and Flexible Scheduling

These sample policies apply to management and other exempt employees, and provide an alternative middle of the spectrum option compared to the no compensation for additional days worked on the one hand and earned days off for all extra days worked on the other.

Earned Days Off - Exempt Employees

Exempt employees are paid a fixed salary that is intended to cover all of the compensation to which they are entitled. Because they are exempt, such employees are not entitled to additional compensation for extra hours of work or time off in lieu of additional compensation.

Flexible Scheduling - Exempt Employees

Exempt employees who wish to arrange flexible scheduling shall work 40 or more hours within the week being flexed to be eligible for flexible scheduling, or have the prior approval of the Executive Director (normal work week is 35 hours). Departments with more than one person must have coverage by at least one person during normal office hours, except in limited or unforeseen circumstances.

- schedules must be arranged one week in advance,

- must be approved by the staff member's supervisor,

- schedule must be submitted to the coordinator of the weekly staff schedule,

- abuse will result in loss of ability to flex schedule, and

- staff are expected to be in the office and working according to the schedule distributed.
