New Gift Certificate Donation Rules From CCRA

Does your charitable organization accept gift certificates as prizes, etc. and provide a tax receipt to the donor.  Well, before you continue this practice, you should check out the new rules from the CCRA. For more details, read this excellent summary from Carter & Associates.

Alberta's New Privacy Law

Alberta's Privacy Act came into force on January 1, 2004.  For more details, check out this Guide to the new law.

Privacy Impacts on Charities

Many organizations are finding it difficult to determine how to handle the new federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and provincial privacy legislation that may affect charitable fundraising and other activities.

A coalition of fundraising groups and associations, including the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), is developing materials to help charities comply with the numerous privacy bills in Canada. The coalition's first document, Privacy 101 – A Guide to Privacy Legislation for Fundraising Professionals in Canada, answers common questions; a second document about the impact of different legislation across Canada will be available on the site in a few weeks.

Publications Assistance Program

The application process for postal subsidy funding for magazines is in full-swing.  Once again, the bias against association publications is very evident.  Check out the new eligibility rules.
